1st Quarter, August 15, 2017-Oct. 6, 2017
Objectives:
Students will be able to understand the basic skills associated with grammar, usage, and mechanics.
Students will also be able to identify appropriate forms of writing such as expository and persuasive.
Students will be able to read short stories and apply a variety of reading strategies, particularly strategies for reading fiction.
Students will be able to analyze literary elements.
Students will be able to use a variety of strategies to build vocabulary.
Students will be able to express and support responses to various types of texts.
Students will be able to prepare, organize, and present literary interpretations.
Students will be able to read dramatic works.
Students will be able to show reading comprehension with online programs and teacher-made lessons.
Students will show their understanding of these standards with reading and writing activities, textbook evaluations, and oral discussions.

Integrated Technology and Software: Technology will include the following: Elmo overhead (document camera); LCD; Achieve 3000 County FSA Level Set testing; Online textbook for Collections; FOCUS AND CLAY PORTAL grade and management programs.
Special Accommodations & ESOL/ELL: Classroom accommodations for students who are under the guidance of ESE services include but not exclusive to the following: flexible scheduling (additional time for assignment/assessment completion, allow for breaks, present instructions and administer tests in several brief sessions); flexible setting (with regards to stimuli, instruction, lighting, furniture, and acoustics); flexible presentation (understanding of instructions, provide verbal encouragement, reading out loud or using highlighting); flexible responding (allowing use of calculator, using pointing device, specialized paper, and mechanical /electronic responses); and assistive devices (visual magnification, auditory amplification, technology for writing and/or reading assignments). Any other requests by parents and/or administration are duly noted and supported.
